Smoothies-the new breakfast!

4 May

HELLO BLOGGIES!!!!! I know I have been MIA, but guess what-a food post! Well, kind of a food post. The last few days I have been busy with wedding things. We had our final meeting with our focus couple and they are confident that we make a good match :) This weekend, I was busy going out to eat with Michelle, hitting up a few places with her, including the zoo (pics to come!) and a new coffee shop (review to come). We also met up with Gregg’s family for dinner in Madison. So needless to say I have been pretty busy. With the business comes no time to make breakfast in the morning!

Since I don’t have much time, I have been relying on my blender the past few days. I have been experimenting with smoothies that keep me full until lunch. On Sunday and Monday, it was a bust. I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong-I knew my smoothies needed to be thicker in order for me to actually stay full without snacking in between breakfast and lunch. (I know it is okay for some people to snack, but I can’t!) So, today, I tried something different. In the mix:

  • 1/2 cup fat free plain yogurt
  • 1 scoop of protein mix
  • handful of ice
  • 1 cup of frozen fruit
  • 3/4 cup of OJ
  • 1/4 cup of water

The end result:

A THICK SMOOTHIE!!!!! This seriously was the first time that it worked for me! And, guess what??? I didn’t snack all morning. This may be a new favorite and I may actually have another one tomorrow :) However, tonight I will be going out to dinner with my mom-we are going to hit up Applebees before we hit up the mall so I can shop for the bridesmaid presents :) Any good ideas for what I should eat at Applebees-not looking for something heavy, just nice and light-let me know!

California Pizza Kitchen and a New Breakfast!

7 May

Good Morning Everyone! I hope you all had a great night and that is wasn’t raining. Too bad it rained pretty much all night here. Even though it rained, that did not keep me from meeting up with my friend Jessica for pizza at the California Pizza Kitchen. We met around 4:30 at the bayshore location. When we got there we started catching up on whats been going on in our lives, ya know the typical girl thing to do! I love CPK, but know that it is not the healthiest option out there, so I made it healthy. I started off by ordering a glass of water to drink.

After a quick overview of the menu I decided to get a side salad. The salad was pretty basic: lettuce, tomato, carrots, cucumbers and croutons. I also got the fat free dressing on the side. Even though the salad wasn’t fancy by any means, it was still really tasty because everything was so fresh! Along with my salad, I decided to get the BBQ Chicken Pizza. This has to be my favorite pizza next to the Santa Fe pizza. There is just something about the bbq sauce and honey wheat dough that make this pizza excellent! I had 2 pieces of this pizza and brought the rest home for Gregg:

bbq-chicken-pizza

Since they do not provide their nutrition information, I guessed about 10 points for my meal. After my visit to CPK, I stopped at Trader Joes to pick up a few items.

Roasted red pepper hummus:

p1020741

Clif Z Bars, fruit leather bars and some peanut butter filled pretzels:

p1020736

I also picked up 2 lbs of strawberries and 12 ounce of blackberries.

p1020740

Items not pictured: mini meringues, garlic herb pizza dough, strawberry lemonade and pomegranate and cranberry bran muffins. I love going to Trader Joes because they have the greatest selection of fruit and Clif Bars. The only problem is that the store is about 40 minutes away so I don’t get to shop there as much as I would like.

When I got home, I had some of the mini meringues and some fat free ice cream:

p1020739

p1020737

For breakfast this morning, I had a cup of coffee while I got ready and made myself a mixture of 1 cup cottage cheese 1/2 cup fat free vanilla yogurt with some strawberries and blackberries and topped it off with some fiber one cereal. This breakfast was a new one for me and really filling. Not to mention, it totally hit the spot for my busy morning! Total points for breakfast: 4.5

p1020742

Today is going to be fairly hectic because I have a lot to do for our wellness program and am only working until 1:30 this afternoon. I did pack a lunch, but I am not sure if I will be eating it at work or not. So, until then, have a great day and take a look at Meghann’s site for a chance to win some Blue Mountain Organic nut butters!!! And don’t forget to enter in Happy Texans Sweet Giveaway too!

Bucks Game Tonight!

10 Mar

Good Morning all! Today is hopefully going to go by fast because I have a date with Gregg tonight! We are going our for dinner and to the Bucks vs the Knicks game tonight. This is Gregg’s first Buck’s game ever, so I am really excited and so is he. But, because I have to get to work early today I better hurry up and post this! Last night, we decided to have Binner again, this time we had french toast, turkey bacon and fruit for a total of 7pts. And look at my french toast guy, isn’t he cute? I know, I am a nerd (but it wasn’t my idea to do this)!

p1020439

p1020440

Then, after dinner, I had a sweet tooth and headed directly for my Easter Candy downfall, Caramel Cadbury Eggs! Have you had these before? They suck me in every year, but I usually buy the really big ones, that are about 180 calories for one! This year, I decided to just get the mini eggs and see if one of the little guys would satisfy my sweet tooth. And guess what? It did, I only had one and it was only 1 pt too!

p1020442

Then later on, for my actual dessert, I had a container of Fage 0% Greek yogurt mixed with pumpkin and topped with pb puffins for a total of 3 pts.

p1020447

This morning was another repeat, pumpkin oats for a total of 2 pts.

p1020370

And for my lunch today, I packed up some soup, strawberries and celery for a nice Zero point lunch! I had to make it light because we are going to Cubanitas for dinner and I want to make sure I can order pretty much whatever I want!

p1020448

That’s all I have for now, have a great day! :)

Monday Already?

16 Feb

Seriously, where did the weekend go? It feels like yesterday I was locking up my door to my office to leave for the weekend. I think the weekends should include Monday, just a thought….. But anyways on Friday when I got home from work, I had a salad and some soup, total pts: 1.

p1020304

Friday night, Gregg and I went to Alterra for dinner where I ordered the Grilled Veggie Wrap. I of course didn’t take a picture, but it was probably the best wrap I have ever had. It had califlouer, summer quash, mushrooms and onions with a little bit of pepperjack cheese all wraped up and grilled. SO GOOD!!! After our dinner, we headed to the grocery store where I spent $227 on groceries! We are pretty stocked up now, so hopefully I won’t need to hit up the store for a while.

Saturday morning, Gregg and I got up around 8:30 and ran a few errands.  We went to Sendik’s, The Breadsmith, Wal-mart, Simma’s and caribou coffee. We had to pick up a few things for the apartment and for our Valentine’s Day dinner so we headed out a little earlier than normal. When we got back, I had a bagel and coffee for breakfast.

p1020307

I didn’t really eat a lunch on Saturday because we pretty much ate breakfast at 12:30 so I just snacked on some carrots to hold me over until dinner. Our dinner was FANTASTIC!!! This was my plate: broccoli, carrots, crab stuffed sole, scallops, bruschetta bread and grilled shrimp! I also had a glass of wine that we picked up that morning as well. The whole dinner was perfectly done and relaxing. A great way to spend the night at home with my huney.

p1020314

For dessert, we picked up some chocolate covered strawberries and carrot cake. Gregg and I each had 1 strawberry and half of the carrot cake. We did also buy some fruit tarts, but were too full to eat them!

p1020319

After our dinner, we watched the Break Up on Tv and I snacked on a few conversation hearts. It’s not Valentine’s day without them!

p1020323

Then, on Sunday morning I woke up and had an apple (1pt).

p1020324

Followed by a bowl of Berry Oats (cranberries, strawberries and blueberries), I added some cottage cheese and fiber cereal to it also (3 pts).

p1020326

After my breakfast, I rode my bike for about a half hour followed by some crunches and push-ups. I visited my mom yesterday where her and I had soup and salad for lunch. Later on Gregg and I went to the all you can eat sushi bar by our apartment. I had a few Salmon Nigiri’s followed by some Eel Nigiri’s and a rainbow roll. We also got to have the Green Tea Ice cream! My man knows the key to my heart is a good meal and Ice cream so he did a good job picking where we went for dinner last night.

And for this morning, I made myself a bowl of pb and banana oats (4.5pts)

p1020329

And for lunch, I packed up 2 tangerines, a 100 calorie snack, a pb and j, carrots and string cheese ( 4.5 pts).

p1020327

That’s all I have for now, I hope you all had a great weekend, have a good day :)

He’s Just Not That Into You

13 Feb

Good Morning Everyone! I am in such a great mood this morning, I can not even explain, well actually I can….. I ACTUALLY WON SOMETHING ON THE RADIO TODAY!!!!!! This has only happened to me one other time before and it was when I was in High School. Back then, I won 4 tickets to see a sneak peak to the movie Road Trip. But, today I won again! The weirdest part is that I actually called in 4 times to try and win. The question was “According to Yahoo Search, The phrase When is Valentine’s Day is up what percent from last year?” The first time I called I said 48%, nope! Then, 75%… nope! Okay how about 250% (they kept saying way higher), nope! Okay, I will try one more time…. 150%? YES!!!! I was surprised I could actually get through 4 times to guess, If I ever do get through it’s usually only once and then it will never happen again. But, not today…. I go pick up my awesome prize this afternoon. I won tickets to go see the new movie He’s Just Not That Into You. I called Gregg right of way, and he wasn’t too thrilled so I will be taking my mom to see it with me.  SO yay for a great morning!

Now onto food…. last night after work, I had an apple right of way and then threw in a pizza for dinner. We actually made the Lean Cuisine 4 cheese pizza. I was a little dissappointed with this because it was pretty bland. It was a good thing that I had some popcorn to go with it! Total pts for dinner:9

p1020298

After dinner we watched a movie and I snacked on a weight watcher mini bar during the movie (1pt). After the movie it was time for my dessert! And this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, I had a bowl of Capt’n Crunch Berries, total pts: 2.5

p10203001

It was so good! I almost forgot how much I loved this cereal and I think I may be buying one of my favorite cereals tonight when we go grocery shopping, it’s nto a very healthy cereal but its a good one! I’ll let you know later if I decide to do that.

Then, this morning I made another bowl of Cranberry-Orange Oats. Total pts: 3.

p1020302

p1020301

That is all I have for now, have a great day :)

Craving Cereal?

12 Feb

Good Morning Everyone! I woke up this morning thinking it was Friday and was wide awake, until I realized it was Thursday and surprisingly my body went into sluggish mode. Really, only Thursday? Oh well, maybe my morning coffee will give me a boost!

Last night, I made a really quick dinner: Stir Fry. We are trying to use everything we possibly can in our freezer and cupboards so that we can fully stock up tomorrow at the grocery store. We usually hit up the grocery store once a month for a huge shopping experience, and only visit it other times if we need something small or we have to make something special for a party or something like that. Tomorrow is grocery day and I couldn’t be more thrilled… I want my fresh fruit and veggies!!!! Any who, back to stir fry. All I did was throw some minute rice into a pot and threw some veggies from the freezer in the microwave. And there you have it, dinner in 5 minutes.  Along with my stir fry, I had 2 pieces of toast, one with just a little spray butter and the other with peanut butter. The other 2 pieces are Gregg’s apple butter toast! Total pts for dinner, 6.5.

p1020294

p1020291

After dinner, I actually fell asleep for about 20 minutes on the sofa, it was only 7:00p! I must have been really tired, but when I woke up I started watching Breakfast Paradise and Man vs Food on the travel channel. Boy is that show addicting, I get so into his challenges, even though I would never do any of them, I think it is interesting to see what he is going to try next! But, on the Breakfast paradise episode, they had this place that you could build your own cereal and it totally put me in the mood for a bowl of cereal, so that’s exactly what I had. 3/4 c of puffins with 1/2 cup of almond milk, 1 pt.

p10202952

I also munched on some popcorn earlier in the day and had a weight watchers cookie, total pts 2. Then this morning I was still craving cereal. But, not a healthy kind Captain Crunch Berries to be exact! I think it is because that is the kind that Gregg has and I haven’t had it in a really long time. But, I refrained because I know it would never keep me going through my busy morning today, so I opted for some oatmeal. In today’s oats: 1/2 cup of dry oats, 1 1/4 c of water, 1 tsp coconut extract, 1 truvia packet, cinnamon and trader joe’s fiber cereal. Total pts 2. I also made some coffee that I will take with me to work, total pts, 1.

p1020297

And for the first time this week, here is an actual picture of my lunch! I packed up some carrots, 1 cup of fat free yogurt, an orange and a wrap with turkey, lettuce and hummus. Total pts for lunch, 6.

p1020296

I did hold off on the Crouch Berries for breakfast, but I have this odd feeling that I will be having it for my dessert tonight! So excited! But, I should get going I must go to work! Have a great day :)

TIP OF THE DAY:

Eat what you crave! If you indulge in something that is not 100% healthy for you once in a while, it won’t hurt you! So feel free to have that slice of pie at a get together, or that cookie at work…. everything in moderation! As long as you don’t do it everyday and you keep the portion size normal you will be fine.

Homemade Sweet Potato Fries

11 Feb

Good Morning Everyone! I hope your doing well this morning, it is a little gloomy here in Wisconsin this morning so that kind of stinks, and not to mention they are saying it is supposed to snow tonight. I seriously am so sick of snow, all I want is for it to be spring! But, thats enough of my complaining about the weather. So I will complain about something else: 90210. This show is really making me mad. I don’t know if any of you are watching it, but it started up in September, aired about 4 episodes and then took a little break until sometime in November. Then in November, they had 4 episodes and took a little break until January. They now have had about 4 episodes and are taking ANOTHER break until March 31st. Seriously WTF????? It’s making me loose interest in the show because now I have to wait 6 weeks for the next one. I don’t know what is going on, but it’s really annoying. Okay, I promise I am done complaining for today, let’s get to food.

Last night, I stopped at the grocery store and packed a HUGE salad. Knowing that we are going to be eating out on Friday and that Iwill need to have a smaller lunch that day, I packed an extra huge salad and saved half of it for lunch on Friday. I am just hoping that it lasts that long. So, I had half of my salad, 0 pts.

p1020282

About a cup of mixed fruit, 1 pt

p1020283

And homemade sweet potato fries. I made 2 different kinds, sweet and salty. These were really easy to make and I am surprised I am just thinking of it now. All you do it preheat the oven to 425. Cut up 2 sweet potatoes into fry shapes (I got about 12 fries from each potato). I then took the fries and placed them in two separate zip lock bags. I sprayed some cooking spray in each of the bags and tossed the fries in it. I then added cinnamon and truvia to the bag and shook them up to coat the fries. In the other bag I added paprika and seasoning salt and then shook them up to coat as well. I then placed them on a prepared cookie sheet (sprayed with cooking spray) and placed them in the oven for 25 minutes. I did flip them twice during the process. Once complete, take out of oven and let cool for about 5 minutes.

I ate both kinds and I think I liked the salty better. Total pts: 4.

p1020285

My dinner all together:

p1020287

For dessert, I had one of these bars and 2 cookies, total pts: 3

p1020172

Then, for breakfast this morning I had a whole grain Strawberry Muffin from Grebes and an apple, total pts: 5

p1010399

For lunch this afternoon, I packed up the leftover spaghetti squash and sauce, a cup of mixed fruit, a lemon luna bar and carrots. Total pts for lunch: 5.5.

That is all for today, have a great day! :)

TIP OF THE DAY:

Try to get in at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. Even if it is walking a few miles after work or during your breaks, try to get up and move!!!

Another Busy Day….

10 Feb

Good Morning Everyone! I hope you are all enjoying this awesome weather we are having (sorry if your weather is not so great), but it is already 50 here in Wisconsin. That must be some kind of record for February 10th! But anyways, last night Gregg and I headed off to Alterra once again for some coffee and to get some work done. I have been crazy busy with law updates and really needed to get a handle on some of them. So I took my big binder of Laws with me and hit the books! After about 2 hours or so, I was mentally drained…. ADA, ADAA, GINA, FMLA, FLSA…. so much to update! But, before we left for Alterra, I made yet again, Binner! This time, it was pancakes, eggs and an orange; total pts: 5.

p1020279

I know it doesn’t look too pretty, but it hit the spot. Then while at Alterra I had a medium non-fat decaff coffee with steamed milk. Total pts: 1.5.

Once we got home, I made myself a little something for dessert; butterscotch pudding and puffins; total pts: 3.5

p10202801

While eating dessert, I watched a little bit of the food network and then hit the hay! This morning, I woke up a little late… my alarm did not go off. This has never happened to me, so now I want to know why it did not go off. I checked it twice and it said alarm on and was set for 6:10 am. So, I am not sure what happened there.

But once I was showered and almost ready I made myself a bowl of oats. This time with just water and cinnamon. And boy did I use a TON of cinnamon. Total pts: 2.

p1020281

And because my camera just died on me, I wasn’t able to snap a picture of the lunch I am going to have today and thanks to google here’s what I packed up:

healthychoicesteamers1

I know it’s not the most healthy lunch, but we are running low on groceries and I am kind of in a hurry because I want to get a few more things done before I head off to work. I also packed an orange and some carrots to go with for a total pts of 6.

And, for the moment you have all been waiting for, the winners of my Valentines day Contest! Lori L and Erin B are the 2 winners I chose!!!! Please email me your address so I can send you the goods. Thanks!

Healthy Tip of The Day:

Try to eliminate processed foods. I know I shouldn’t talk with my lunch pick for the day, but always choose fresh products when possible!

Frantic Monday

9 Feb

Good Afternoon Everyone, I have to make this quick because I am on my lunch break right now! I hope you all had a great weekend but let’s get right to the goods! Yesterday for lunch, I had a turkey sammy with lettuce, turkey and Cajun mayo, some carrots and hummus, and about a cup of grapes.  Total pts: 4

p10202723

For dinner, I made garlic bread, total pts: 1.

p1020273

I also made a spaghetti squash and had about 2 cups of it along with some pasta sauce, total pts: 3

p1020276

Then, for dessert, I made some sugar free butterscotch pudding and had a clif bar to go with, total pts: 3.

p1020277

Then, this morning I had 2 pieces of whole wheat toast, an apple and a mixture of ricotta cheese, orange extract and a sprinkle of truvia (i used this as the spread for my bread). I also had the last of my protein powder (no pictured) total pts: 5.

p1020278

Sorry this post is really quick, but I have a ton of work to do today! I will post the winners from the v-day contest later!!!!

TIP OF THE DAY:

Eat a variety of foods, make sure to mix it up so you don’t get too bored with your food!

Sunny Sunday!

8 Feb

It is such a great day out today here in Wisconsin! Not as great as yesterday, but it is such a nice break from the below zero weather we are used to this time of year. I hope your weekends are going well, here’s a recap of my weekend:

On Friday night, we went to Panera Bread for dinner where I had the veggie soup, a side salad (no dressing), a side of fruit and a whole wheat baguette, total pts: 4. After we ate dinner, we went to Alterra for some coffee where I got a coffee with steamed milk and white chocolate syrup, total pts: 2. When we got home, I had about 1/2 cup of caramel delight ice cream and a cookie for dessert, total pts: 3.

p1020259

On Saturday morning, I made myself a bowl of Cranberry Oats with almond milk, oats, cranberries and orange extract. I also added a tbs of whipped cream and 1/3 cup of high fiber cereal to the top, total pts: 3.

p1020261

Gregg and I had a few errands to run on Saturday, so we stopped at Hooligans for lunch where I had an Ostrich Burger with a side salad and an MGD Lite, total pts: 7. This was the first time I had ever had an Ostrich Burger and I LOVED it. It tasted like a regular burger, just not as fatty. If you are looking for a healthy alternative to beef, try this, you won’t be disappointed! After lunch, we stopped at whole foods to pick up a few goodies. We also stopped at the Metro Market to build salads for dinner. My salad consisted of Mandarin oranges, strawberries, onions, spinach, almonds and tofu. I also packed up some pineapple, papaya and some pumpkin fluff, total pts: 4.

p1020262

At whole foods we got some sushi to split for dinner. I had 4 of the salmon rolls and 3 of the shrimp nigiri’s, total pts: 4.5

p1020263

After dinner, we watched 2 movies: The Holiday and Friday Night Lights. Can you guess which one I picked for us to watch? :) During the movie, I snacked on some pretzels and I also had an almond butter cookie (or 4). But, for dessert, I had a Vegan, Sugar Free Chocolate Chip cookie from Whole foods and some ice cream, total pts: 11. I know it’s a lot of points, but it was my super high day on the wendie plan, which means 35 points in one day! I am okay with it though because I get to eat something totally different than I usually would, hence the cookies!

p1020266

And finally, this morning Gregg and I amde our usual stop at Caribou Coffee where I got a medium coffee with steamed skim milk and sugar free caramel syrup. We also stopped at Sentry to get some Whole Grain Muffins, todays pick: Lemon! When we got home I paired my muffin with a gala apple, total pts: 6.5.
